At Indriya, teachers from different disciplines guide the process — from Vipassana and yoga to somatic practices and conscious relationships. Each of them creates a space where practice becomes a personal experience.
Anthony Markwell — Founder of Indriya
A former Buddhist monk with 30 years of personal practice.
Anthony became interested in Buddhism in 1991 while in Thailand, after meeting a teacher at Wat Don Put Monastery — an encounter that marked the beginning of his spiritual path.
Inspired by Buddhism, Anthony ordained as a monk and devoted himself to practice and the study of the Dhamma. For several years, he served as a resident teacher at Wat Kow Tham Monastery in Koh Phangan, Thailand.
Participants of his retreats consistently speak of their experience with great enthusiasm. They value Anthony’s ability to present Buddhist teachings with clarity, depth, and genuine passion. He is deeply familiar with the Pali Canon, which preserves the Buddha’s teachings, and places particular emphasis on Satipatthana — the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
Anthony spent 11 years in monastic life in temples across Myanmar and Thailand and led Vipassana retreats continuously for 12 years.
In 2019, he founded the Indriya Retreat Center on Koh Phangan, where he became the main teacher and guiding force behind its vision.
